FLOR performs semantic enrichment of folksonomy tagsets in three phases. The Lexical Processing removes from each tagset the tags that the following phases of FLOR can't process and generates a list of syntactic equivalents for each tag. The phase of (Disambiguation &) Semantic Expansion expands the tagset with synonyms and hypernyms derived from a thesauri (e.g., WordNet). Finally the Semantic Enrichment phase creates a semantic layer on top of each tagset.

The following demonstrates a FLOR enrichment cycle of a tagset. Phase 1 removes the tags that fall into the isolation criteria (i.e., tags with numbers, two character tags) and produces the lexical representations for each tag. Phase 2 defines the sense for each tag based on the tag co-occurences within a tagset. Then expands the tagset with synonyms and hypernyms for this tag (sense). Finally Phase 3 enriches semantically the tagset with Semantic Web Entities. (The relation discovery process is part of our ongoing work).
